Role of the Patient Caregiver in Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML)1

An involved caregiver acts as an important liaison between the healthcare team and patient, and improves patient adherence to the treatment plan to help avoid complications or unnecessary disease progression. Caregivers help with patient adherence to treatment by:

  • Reminding loved ones to take medication and adhere to the treatment plan
  • Aiding in daily routine tasks and chores
  • Going grocery shopping and preparing meals
  • Assisting with personal hygiene and care
  • Transporting the patient to appointments and treatments
  • Communicating with members of the healthcare team
  • Taking and providing notes during medical appointments
