Factors Influencing Patient Adherence in Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML)

Factors influencing adherence may include, but are not limited to1:

  • Low language literacy
  • Unstable living conditions
  • Lack of knowledge regarding available assistance/assistance programs
  • Poor relationship with provider
  • Lack of positive reinforcement or knowledge
  • Lack of continuity of care
  • Poor communication
  • Asymptomatic disease
  • Severity of symptoms
  • Complex medication regimen
  • Lack of immediate benefit
  • Actual or perceived unpleasant side effects
  • Lifestyle changes
  • Physical or behavioral factors
  • Expectations or attitude
  • Perceived benefit
  • Confidence and motivation
  • Alcohol or substance abuse
  • Lack of family/social support
